Acupuncture Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How should I be dressed for treatment?

A: Please dress comfortably, such as in cotton t-shirt, sweatpants, or shorts, as treatments with Dr. Edith often involve some manual therapy or bodywork. This is especially helpful if we need to incorporate stretches and joint mobilization techniques, or to practice therapeutic exercises together.

Q: This is my first time trying Acupuncture. Does it hurt?

A: New patients are always pleasantly surprised to find that acupuncture needles are as thin as the width of a hair and completely different from hypodermic needles. The small needles are inserted gently and skillfully. Patients generally do not feel the painful piercing or pricking sensations often associated with injections or other hypodermic needle procedures. Instead, they report sensations of warmth, distension, or tingling at the needle site and associated energy meridians. At our clinic, only disposable, single-use needles are used.

Q: How will I feel after Acupuncture?

A: Patients often experience a sense of calmness and euphoria immediately after acupuncture. So please take a few minutes after treatment to sit quietly, have some warm water or tea and take your time leaving the clinic. Some patients feel a gentle tingling sensation at the acu-points even after needles are removed. This sensation is entirely normal and fades away in a few hours.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept? What about insurance?

A: We accept cash, check, Visa or Mastercard. Payment is due at the time of service. For patients with PPO-type insurance plans that cover acupuncture, or a FSA/HSA, a Superbill can be provided. A Superbill is a medical invoice using standardized codes for treatments received, which you can submit directly to your insurance plan, FSA, or HSA for reimbursement. Please call your insurance carrier directly to find out about your coverage and reimbursement procedures for Acupuncture and related services. Our office does not bill insurance, but we're very happy to provide "Superbill" medical invoices for you to submit for reimbursement.

Please kindly note: In order to devote our time fully towards quality patient care (minimizing paperwork & admin), Dr. Edith is not able to take on any Personal Injury cases, or patients covered by Harrington Health. Thank you for understanding.
